How did it happen?
How did we get to the point where no one knows what to eat any more? Or what food is actually healthy and what isn’t?
For me it started as a desire to lose a bit of weight which turned into following Keto for ten years. It then developed into health issues – hair falling out, cold all the time, heading towards pre diabetes, low immunity and then the final insult, weight started to increase again!
But I’ve heard similar stories from others following every other type of diet too:-
Vegan – depression, bad skin & crumbling teeth and bones
Raw Vegan – same as above but also kidney problems from high oxalates and leaky gut from too much fibre, mineral deficiencies from phytic acid and more
Carnivore – feeling like crap, brain fog, pre diabetes
Low carb/Keto – same as my issues above
Paleo – digestive issues, sleep problems, rashes, bone and tooth issues, low energy
Low calorie – fatigue, thyroid issues and slow metabolism
Low fat – dry skin, gut issues, constipation, brain issues
Standard diet – diabetes, heart problems, pcos, obesity
Starch Solution – leads to the low fat diet issues above and systemic cancer like leukaemia
So every type of exclusion diet it seems has a downside eventually.
I believe the style of diet encouraged by Dr Ray Peat is better for your health than all of the above because:
- it’s more balanced
- has high nutrient content
- optimises hormonal balance
- includes highly digestible foods
- reduces stress in the body
- doesn’t leave you hungry
- and is designed to create a fast metabolism
The only downside to this diet is that if you approach it the wrong way, you will put on weight while you are healing all of your issues.
Good news: I’ve figured out how to get the health benefits & weight loss too!
Over the next seven days I will outline a few things that will help to get your weight on track, while your health is also repairing.
In the meantime, I wanted to introduce you to my Recipes Page where you will find some great recipes to try. Click here. Feel free to pin them to your Pinterest boards or Yummly.
