Don’t stress about eating

stress about eating

A new friend in my life was quizzing me about what I eat.

We were exchanging recipes and explaining briefly the why, what and hows of our respective eating habits and at one point I said, “I do eat cheese because I like it and it suits my weight loss goals but I am aware of the gumming up effect it sometimes has on me if I eat it too much. As well as the fact that all dairy food is supposed to cause inflammation in your body, much like grains do. But I don’t stress about eating and have it anyway.”

New year goals

new year goalsHappy New Year Goals!

I’m excited again at the start of a new year, it does it to me every time. Not sure why, maybe it’s the holidays and so you are more relaxed and actually have time to think about your life and make plans. Or maybe it’s time to brush yourself off and start again.

What ever it is, I like it!

But I don’t want to eat that way.

healthy eating, natural weight loss, paleo, dairy free, grain free, refined sugar free, diet

Chatting to someone on IG who was complaining that she keeps overeating cake, cookies, ice-cream, chocolate and was mad at herself for not being able to stick to the plan she was on.

The plan she followed allowed certain amounts of all this stuff but time after time she would eat more than what was allowed, get mad at herself for doing it, not reach her weight loss goals, feel down and depressed, vow to stick with it this time and found herself back at square one, mad at herself again for doing it again and again.

Five weight loss mistakes

tapemeasure

I have been reading a few health books lately mostly specifically about grains and weight loss. The interesting thing is that they exactly mirror my beliefs on this subject and reveal at least five weight loss mistakes that people make. My beliefs of course stem from my own experience but also of witnessing the plight of others who keep trying to do the ‘diet and exercise’ advice and fail spectacularly for years, some never succeeding and spending most of their lives miserable. (After dishing out hundreds of dollars on programs that can never work.)

So let’s take a look at what is wrong here…

The Golden Arches make me feel sick now…

My husband and I were on a road trip to find a field of sunflowers. He is a photographer, so these fun adventures lead us to all kinds of stunning places where I can just sit, enjoy and bask in the beauty of the planet. As we passed a McDonald’s sign he said, “The Golden Arches sign makes me feel sick these days…”

This was an interesting statement as he was once a junk food king, devouring Maccas on the way home from work, pizza for dinner, Hungry Jacks as a legitimate lunch option and downing all matter of soft drinks as part of his normal diet. It didn’t make him overweight but there seemed to be an internal protest going on and slowly over time, it seemed his body couldn’t handle it any more. Call it age, call it just being overloaded with crap for too long, call it whatever you like but the stomach pains, gut pains, feeling nauseous, just generally feeling bad after this type of food led him to eat it less and less often to the point where now he doesn’t eat it at all.

2015 – The year of ‘feeling’ your way…

It’s Happy New Year time again! Are you excited?

Time to wipe the slate clean and all that.

Even after 40 odd years of happy new years, I still get excited. The same excited though as when I start a new notebook fresh and clean or start a new project. It’s somehow full of potential, possibilities and wonderful things, like feeling amazing.

The moment I turned downstream…

I am a huge fan of Esther Hicks and the Law of Attraction mainly because it makes so much sense to me. The concept is basically ‘what you think about you bring about’ and if you are all doom and gloom, then guess what? That’s mostly what shows up in your life.

Upstream Downstream

I had a fantastic conversation with a friend Pam who has been overweight all of her adult life, tried everything to lose it as well, without success. She loves to exercise, drinks lots of water, is into alternative health and the Law of Attraction, is active, fun loving, gets out lots but still this is the one thing that has niggled her and her whole family actually, all their lives.

Then she read my book.
