Recently on the Slim Birdy – One Ten Toned – Eating Peaty private Facebook group, I told the story of the visit with my parents who live two states away. My father was finding the whole ‘taking your temperature thing’ revelatory in terms of helping with his eating habits. (He wants to put on weight, where as our group mostly discusses weight loss, however request to join if you would like to see how it was helping him.)
During that visit too, there is another story about exercise I wanted to tell and a running joke with my father – “Dad have you been lifting your weights a little?” He always replies, “I’ll start tomorrow.” He has said this for the last 30 years!
A new friend in my life was quizzing me about what I eat.
We were exchanging recipes and explaining briefly the why, what and hows of our respective eating habits and at one point I said, “I do eat cheese because I like it and it suits my weight loss goals but I am aware of the gumming up effect it sometimes has on me if I eat it too much. As well as the fact that all dairy food is supposed to cause inflammation in your body, much like grains do. But I eat it anyway.”
I’m excited again at the start of a new year, it does it to me every time. Not sure why, maybe it’s the holidays and so you are more relaxed and actually have time to think about your life and make plans. Or maybe it’s time to brush yourself off and start again.
I have been reading a few books lately mostly specifically about sugar, grains and weight loss and the interesting thing is that they exactly mirror my beliefs on this subject. My beliefs of course stem from my own experience but also of witnessing the plight of others who keep trying to do the ‘diet and exercise’ advice and fail spectacularly for years, some never succeeding and spending most of their lives miserable. (After dishing out hundreds of dollars on programs that can never work.)
