You hear this line thrown out everywhere – “Just eat less and exercise more” – as the magical answer to everyone’s weight issues. The problem is it doesn’t actually work if you do it incorrectly (which most people do) and makes the issues worse, as you will see in this story…
Muscles help burn calories faster so therefore you should get muscles first to lose weight – apparently…
Ok so it’s no secret that I don’t like going to the gym. It just doesn’t do it for me from a number of angles. Despite the fact that the fitness crew out there still blast away that it’s the best thing ever and many, many weight loss programs insist that you must go to the gym to lose weight, I am finally at peace with the facts:-
a) I don’t need to go any where near a gym to lose weight
b) I don’t need to feel bad, less than or hopeless because I don’t go
c) it’s perfectly fine to know what you don’t like and it doesn’t mean you are lazy
d) some people love it – so go for your life! Just leave the rest of us alone.
(In fact truth be told, apparently the stats are that only about 10% of the population go to the gym, so there is way more of us who don’t – interesting!)
It gets me every time. I can’t stand it!!! Bad personal trainers and the whole wrong concept of torturing yourself to lose weight.
Every time I see something like this, all my own weight loss struggles, feelings of hardship, dread, exasperation, disappointment at trying all different things that never worked and just plain hopelessness come flooding back.
I just feel it. I feel for the person, I feel angry at society, I feel disdain for the fitness and weight loss industry who are preying on these people and I just feel frustrated that I can’t help more people faster!
This post covers some ground that I have previously covered but because I keep seeing it over and over, it makes me want to keep saying it over and over in a slightly different way. Hopefully maybe people will get it and stop all this unnecessary suffering. It’s driving me crazy. Continue reading →
